The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars, a novel by John Green, is story narrated by sixteen year old cancer patient Hazel, who is forced to attend a support group by her parents. In the support group she meets and falls in love with a seventeen year old, Augustus Waters, an amputee who lost his leg to osteosarcoma. The book is filled with many beautiful quotes and messagaes. Some of my favorite quotes are:
" My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations"
" Some infinities are bigger than other infinities"
" The marks humans leave are too often scars"
The whole book is just amazing and that clever title comes from Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar (Act I: Scene II), The nobleman Cassius says to Brutus, 'The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings."

If you don't believe me, read what the author has to say about why his book is so successful:

How I feel about it....

When you go to the movies, while watching the trailers for upcoming films, you will most likely see a movie with a title that sounds vaguely familiar. Why does the name sound so familiar, because it is! It seems that Hollywood has run out of its own ideas and are now paying for the rights to other people’s. My topic of books that are being adapted to film is very appropriate for me. In the past I have read amazing books, imagined the main characters in my head, and how they would say this line or that one. Then when I get the announcement that they are making that awesome book into a film, I get mixed feelings. They could make it exactly like I imagined sticking straight to the storyline of the book or they could stray so far I hardly recognize what book they were basing the movie off of.  Most of the time I am disappointed by the film and think the books are much better, but I have pleasantly surprised by a movie once or twice. I really want to see how other readers feel when a book they have read is adapted. I also want to know how the author feels with their work being changed and rewritten. The actors who take on the roles of these much loved characters must feel some pressure from the fans so I’d also like to see how they mentally prepare themselves for the thorough inspection of their work by the avid fans.
