So my blog is going to be about books that are currently being adapted into movies. I have been doing a lot of research on Ender’s Game, a novel by Orson Scott Card written in 1985, since I recently finished the book. There has been a lot of controversy attached to the film because of some of the author’s personal views. Card is publicly known to have anti-gay views and also recently compared Obama to Hitler. Some LGBT groups and supporters are now boycotting the movie. The campaign to boycott the movie was started by GEEKs OUT. Card is on the board of the National Organization for Marriage. The group advises people to not spend their money that would cause Card to profit from it. However, Lionsgate has tried to distance itself from the controversy by releasing statements in interviews asking audiences to not judge the book or movie based on the author’s beliefs. I read the book and the book really does not deal with any sexuality issues; however, it does deal with other moral issues. I read someone say that this is really a case of story vs. author and I completely agree.
